Polyester is a synthetic fabric made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) mixed with ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. Polyester yarns and fabric are among the most widely used synthetic fabrics in the world due to their versatile and durable nature. The polyester yarn is woven to form a single polyester fabric which is hydrophobic.
Due to its hydrophobic nature, it does not absorb moisture and makes the wearer feel hot and sweaty, especially during the summers. Polyester fibers typically have a low level of wicking, making them unsuitable for hot and humid weather.
However, polyester is a stronger fabric than cotton and has better stretchability. The fiber strength of polyester can range from 2.5 grams/denier to 9.5 grams/denier.
